Eliminating paper forms and administering flu shots, while improving efficiency and reporting methods.

Scenario:

The Department of Health for a large U.S. Central State had set up flu clinics to administer flu shots being given to various patients. These flu clinics were set up to combat the flu epidemic wreaking havoc in the U.S.

The State relied heavily on paper forms which slowed down the processing and tracking of patients waiting in line for a flu shot. Workers entered all form information into their electronic system manually, which in turn delayed the submission of information to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control). The Department of Health was unable to process any insurance claims and were not getting reimbursement, as paper forms were too cumbersome and prevented them from billing to insurance companies. The handling and processing of the paper forms was also costing the agency millions of dollars each year. The overall process was outdated and inefficient causing information loss and increasing overall costs.
